Balincourt Bed and Breakfast Accommodation highlights it's Victorian History

Built in the Victorian era, the five star luxury Balincourt Guest House was originally the private house of a prominent and wealthy Bournemouth family. In 1926 the house became a private hotel.

In August 2009 Nigel and Alison Gandolfi, the current proprietors of the Balincourt welcomed Bill Hall who was only too happy to share some of the Balincourt's colourful history.

Bill Hall's distant relative Edward Hall born in 1889 had an older brother, Thomas Hall who was butler to Sir Basil Zaharoff, an international millionaire arms dealer. At some stage Edward joined his brother as under butler. Sir Basil had a residence in Paris but in 1916 he had bought the Chateau Balincourt north west of Paris. Here he did a great deal of entertaining of wealthy and famous people. Sir Basil died in 1936 and in his will he bequeathed six months salary for each year of service to each member of his staff.

Edward Hall moved to Bournemouth and acquired experience of the hotel trade as head waiter at the Hawthorns Hotel in Bournemouth. He then went on to acquire the Balincourt Guest House with his inheritance from Sir Basil. Edward Hall died in 1961 and by that time the Balincourt was a thriving guest house as Bournemouth expanded into a popular seaside resort.

Today Nigel and Alison Gandolfi have strived to retain many original Victorian features at the Balincourt which have been carefully incorporated into the furnishings and style of the Guest House.
